The 1976 Crystal Palace Garden Party, good line up including the Chieftains, The London Irregular Firemen, Freddie King, and EC.

When he hit the intro to "Layla" the noise level was such that he stopped playing, suggested that people might like to hear the song, got a huge round of applause, gestured for everyone to sit down, then restarted in the (relative) silence.

My son-in-law has worked on his concerts ( lighting electrician ) and reckons he's a genuine nice bloke.

How about the Dutch band Focus? The track "Sylvia" takes me back to the early days of Radio Caroline.
