The Lawyers Are Still Smiling, Jim!
Poor Jim Devine, he must be the stupidest ever Labour MP. His expense fiddles were so crass they were pathetic. Why he was not charged over some of the other blatant dishonest claims, like the shelving or the electrical work I just don't understand.
Then, having admitted on television that he was guilty of fiddling his expenses, he chooses to plead not guilty in court, which will ensure he gets more porridge than pleading guilty. Still, he looks like a porridge stuffer. And his evasions and lies were simply unbelievably piss-poor.
Oddly enough his legal eagles are still all smiles as they leave the court. I do hope they have made sure Jim can pay their fucking bill!

It's expenses Jim, but not as we know'm....
Another bent bastard bites the dust ..
Wasn't one of this thief's defences "well everyone else is doing it" .. ?
Mind, I don't reckon he has much to fear in the showers .. no-one could possibly be that desperate .. surely ?
I feel sorry for him. There's a lot worse than him and he knows it. They've made him into a scapegoat and slunk into the shadows, knowing that if they keep their heads down, they'll get away with it. Meanwhile, he's taking the rap.
Scapegoat or not .. and I agree, there are many more just as guilty .. and their time may yet come ..
He got what he deserves .. He knew that what he was doing was wrong, no-one forced him to lie & steal ..
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime, simple ..
A Union man of 15 years I believe. Explains it all really...
That makes it even worse...
Unfortunately this thing was my MP-speaks volumes about the quality of our represnetatives doesn't it?. Now, I didn't much care for Robin Cook but this object wasn't fit to wipe Cook's bum. To be fair to him, and I am disinclined to be fair to thieves, he should be joining hundrds of the thieving bastards as well bt I guess even a few banged up is a result of sorts.

Absolutely right. BTW. Jackie Smith was on question time last night. Or so I read somewhere. I can't bring myself to watch it.
As Old Holborn says: only another 649 to go...
I must admit, there's a certain amount of Schadenfreude to be had that the thief Devine thought he could get away with it.
And sure, he could have done, back in the old days, the days before the Age of Information.
Let this be a wake up call to all those 600+ troughers out there that like Nicolae Ceaușescu, there's a little place called Târgoviște waiting for you all.
You have to ask why he didn't plead guilty, he obviously would have taken advice from his lawyers. And they obviously said, let's fight it. Of course had he pleaded guilty then he wouldn't have needed the lawyers and so, no fees for them.
If you've ever had to deal with lawyers then you'll know that they don't have your interests at heart, only generating as much fees as possible. A bit like a black cab that isn't interested in taking the shortest/quickest route and is happy to sit in traffic watching the meter ticking away.
He didn't win?
But he had Lurch on his team!
